GERLOS SKIING

Gerlos is part of the hugely impressive Zillertal Arena ski area, the largest area in the Zillertal ski region. The variety and extent of the terrain, combined with the snow record for the area make the Zillertal Arena and Gerlos one of the top intermediate ski areas in the Alps. Gerlos is situated in the heart of the Zillertal Arena ski region, the most central of the ski holiday resorts and offers skiing directly out of the resort centre, with runs back to various parts of Gerlos. Intermediates are best served in Gerlos with some impressive distances available to cover in both directions.

Heading west from Gerlos is the Zell am Ziller area of the Zillertal Arena ski region, whilst in the opposite direction there is Königsleiten, both areas offering excellent intermediate skiing and a good range of off-piste skiing. Local guides are on hand to discover some very impressive off-piste terrain. For beginners, there is a learner’s area in the heart of Gerlos as well as at the mid-station, whilst the fourth ski area of the Zillertal Arena, Hochkrimml located just beyond Königsleiten has great beginner skiing.

GERLOS RESORT

Located high on alpine pass, Gerlos has a wonderful setting, a real alpine seclusion with views either way down the valley and mountains bordering the resort. The Zillertal Arena of which the ski resort of Gerlos is part gets a lot of snow and Gerlos deep in snow can look superb. Running through the resort is the main Gerlos road as well as a river that runs parallel to it. Much of the resort facilities in Gerlos are located along the main resort road, whilst the river offers riverside walking that offers a more peaceful route through the resort.

Gerlos is the biggest of the 3 Zillertal Arena ski holiday resorts and is located centrally within the ski region, Zell am Ziller is larger but is more of a regional town than a ski resort. There is a large beginners ski area in the resort itself and several pistes runs back down into Gerlos. The main gondola in the resort runs from the beginner’s ski area in Gerlos, just outside the central area. Gerlos has some of the best après ski in the region but for those wanting to escape the post ski celebrations there are many peaceful areas to the resort of Gerlos.
