Just over 4 weeks to go before the ski passes start to roll turnstiles and the first instalment of winter arrived overnight. It was pretty miserable weather for most, but the glaciers got a great late August gift in the form of prolonged snow.

From Innsbruck the higher peaks of Serles and Glungezer still boast a cover of fresh snow in the afternoon sunshine whilst further afield the Stubai Glacier, Pitztal Glacier and the Hintertux Glacier all got a good covering.

Stored snow on the glaciers, protected by mounding and covering the snow will enable these areas to roll out a base in the coming weeks, supplemented by natural and artificial snow. The clock is ticking.
