There was absolutely nothing at all on the radar and yet on arrival in St Anton the first flakes were hitting the windscreen. By St Christoph the wind was up the sky thick with snow and at Zurs am Arlberg you knew this was going to be a big storm. Lech am Arlberg saw the best of the snow and the evening saw big and sustained falls. We took a walk through the resort in the early evening and the atmosphere was wonderful – there can’t be many (if any) to match Lech am Arlberg for atmosphere and charm.
There was also a surprising amount of early season apres ski activity with Lechtal Strasse alive with river and roadside bars packed, whilst the Lech am Arlberg advent market was in full swing in the resort centre. There wasn’t a single ski boot on table (this is Lech am Arlberg) but the atmosphere and numbers were really surprising for the pre-Christmas period. All-in-all, a great weekend to ski and apres ski in Lech.
