TIME ON THE SNOW, RATHER THAT THE AUTOBAHN
The shorter the duration of the trip, the greater the proportion of it is spent getting there - not a good equation! Minimise this by selecting resorts with short transfers. Innsbruck is a ridiculously short transfer – from the arrivals lounge it is 2 miles to the central Old Town and 4.5 miles to the nearest cable car. There aren’t many better ski transfers anywhere in the world but there are some really great other resort options.
It is not just the transfer time that needs to be considered, some airports deposit their arriving clients on distant gates, leaving near marathon distances to collect bags. Airports such as Innsbruck and Salzburg are a throwback to airports of old, where clients can be at passport control just minutes after the plane has come to a standstill and in the taxi or bus stand just a few minutes later.

INNSBRUCK
Innsbruck has an airport just 2 miles from its medieval Old Town and a cable car some 4 miles from the arrivals hall.
KITZBÜHEL
It is just 44 miles to Kitzbühel from Innsbruck airport with most of this on the regional Autobahn and fast B roads.
MAYRHOFEN
Mayrhofen can be reached in around an hour from Innsbruck airport, being just 46 miles from the airport.
ZELL AM SEE
Zell am See is 49 miles from Salzburg airport with much of the transfer taking place on the regional Autobahn.
SAALBACH
Saalbach is 51 miles from Salzburg airport and much of the transfer is on fast roads or the regional Autobahn.
SÖLDEN
Sölden is directly west of Innsbruck airport along the Innsbruck valley and it is just 52 miles from the airport.
ARRIVING IN STYLE
For those with a bit of budget and some clients to impress, then it is possible to continue the journey to resort by helicopter or fixed wing (in some cases). Resorts such as Zell am See, Kaprun and the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier are well served by a local airstrip, whilst Lech-Zürs offers heli-flights into the resort from regional airports.
Luxury road transfers are also possible with executive, spacious, high-end minivans or coaches an option for many resorts. Refreshments and entertainment are possible and the drivers ensure that clients are delivered directly to their accommodation. Even the regular transfer services offered by Austrian suppliers tend to be very good with excellent quality vehicles navigating a very well-maintained road system.
